Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund could play each other FOUR times in only 17 days

They'll be sick of the sight of each other

If familiarity does indeed breed contempt, these two will be full of hate come day 17.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are the two superpowers of German football in the modern era. The Bavarians may dominate the honours, but few sides in Europe can match Dortmund for thrilling, effective football in the past decade.

Such is the rivalry between the two Bundesliga giants that coming up against one another is something of an occupational hazard. League games are supplemented by regular cup clashes, as often only one is able to stop the other from progression.

But things are set to come to an almighty head in April, as the pair could meet a ridiculous FOUR times in only 17 days. The freak occurrence would cover three competitions, and there is a one in seven chance of it actually taking place.

That is because both teams could be drawn together in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with no nationality rules keeping them apart at this stage. The first leg would be played on the week commencing April 10, with second leg a week later.

They are also due to meet in the Bundesliga on April 8, and then there is the DFB Cup semi-final encounter on April 25. In the scenario of being drawn together in Europe, only one of the four game would be played in Dortmund.

The Champions League draw takes place on the morning of Friday March 17 in Nyon, Switzerland.
