Joe Hart is still a Manchester City player, just about.
Despite being the club’s number one goalkeeper for the best part of a decade, Pep Guardiola swiftly decided that this would not remain the case when he arrived at the Etihad a year ago.
After spending the duration of last season on loan at Torino, it’s still unclear where Hart will end up in time for the start of 2017/18. Obviously, hopes of him resurrecting his career at City are remote – especially with Guardiola in charge – and another season in Italy seems unlikely.
A report from the BBC has indicated that West Ham could be a possible destination for the England goalkeeper, with the London club said to be keen on taking him to the capital.
Interestingly, the same report also states that Hart’s representatives have held discussions with Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho said to be an admirer of his.
The report doesn’t make clear when or why United were in contact, but with David De Gea again linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer, it’s probably safe to assume Mourinho was looking for potential replacements.
With De Gea now on United’s US preseason tour, it seems the Spaniard will remain United’s first choice goalkeeper heading into the new season.
How willing City would’ve been to let Hart move to Old Trafford is another matter entirely.
