Last weekend’s second city derby was tarnished by violence
Both Birmingham City and Aston Villa have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during the second city derby that took place at St Andrew’s last weekend.
Players clashed in the fifth minute after a late tackle on Villa captain Jack Grealish from Maikel Kieftenbeld, prompting British football’s governing body to punish both sides.
The clubs have until Monday to respond to the charges.
It was an eventful day for Grealish, who received rough tackles throughout the game as expected, and was also the victim of assault from a Birmingham fan in the 10th minute of the game.
The man who attacked Grealish, Paul Mitchell, 27, has since been jailed for 14 weeks.
