Imagine what the atmosphere will be like when the game actually happens…

Tonight, Boca Juniors and River Plate will meet for the first time ever in the final of the Copa Libertadores – if it isn’t called off for the second consecutive day.

Last night, torrential rain in Buenos Aires meant that the first leg of the final had to be suspended and rescheduled for this evening. When the official announcement was made, some Boca fans were already in the stadium, and they weren’t going to let some water get in the way of their fun.

A video has surfaced on social media showing a large group of Boca fans singing and dancing in the stands, despite the ground being largely empty due to the fact that no match was taking place.

La Bombonera is famed for its electric atmosphere, especially for Superclásicos, and it’s clear to see why when the fans get this hyped up for a match that isn’t even happening.

The video it’s a sad indictment on the lack of atmosphere at Premier League grounds. Yes, tickets are too expensive. Yes, the all-seater rule is an obstacle in creating an atmosphere but let’s take inspiration from our South American cousins and try to create something half this good.

The final of the Copa Libertadores will be a two legged affair, with the first played at La Bombonera, and the second played at River Plate’s El Monumental stadium just down the coast.
