Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Ilkay Gündogan has asked to follow Jurgen Klopp out the exit door in the summer.
“Ilkay told us he wants to leave this summer,” said the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc. “But we have received no offers from any clubs for any of our players as of now.”
A deep-lying playmaker with a great range of passing – and a willingness to put the boot in when necessary – the £20m rated German international is exactly the kind of player Man United need, particularly with Michael Carrick now in the twilight of his career.

However, if Louis van Gaal is to get his man, he’ll need to beat off stiff competition…so to speak.
Reports in Germany suggest that Bayern Munich are also interested in Gündogan, with a pretty sensational swap deal involving Mario Götze being touted.
