Even before Jurgen Klopp took charge of Liverpool, there were strong footballing ties between Dortmund and Liverpool because the iconic anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ was frequently blasted out over the tannoy system at the Westfalenstadion before the German giants took the field.
With the return leg of the Kloppico evenly poised at 1-1, there’s going to be a special atmosphere at Anfield on Thursday night and the Dortmund fans are only going to add to this after they revealed plans to honour the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.
3,000-strong travelling Dortmund fans will hold up a mosaic before kick-off spelling out ‘96’ in black and yellow.
From Borussia Dortmund's site:
"Paper boards [have been] prepared in the away section, to provide the number "96" in black on yellow." #LFC— Conor McNamara (@ConorMcNamaraIE) April 12, 2016
The Liverpool Echo have also revealed that the travelling supporters from Germany have also been invited to attend Friday’s memorial service at Anfield. Pure class.
