Very sad news.
Carlos Alberto, captain of the Brazil team that won the World Cup in 1970 and scorer of one of the greatest goals of all time, has died aged 72.
Alberto died in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday after suffering a heart attack.
Alberto represented Fluminese, Santos, Flamengo, the New York Cosmos and California Surf at club level and played for Brazil 58 times before retiring from international football in 1977.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders ever to play the game, Alberto only played in one World Cup, in Mexico in 1970.
In that tournament, he captained a team still regarded as one of the best of all time and scored probably the greatest World Cup Final goal in history to cap off a resounding 4-0 victory over Italy.

After his playing career, Alberto managed a number of teams from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s in a career which included spells in charge of Flamengo, Fluminese and the national teams of Oman and Azerbaijan.
