Look at what it means to him
Most man of the match awards are pretty simple. In the Premier League you get a plaque of some kind and perhaps a bottle of league branded champagne. Further down the leagues, though, things get a little more varied.
With lower league teams having more unusual, local sponsors, the man of the match awards tend to be in kind, and that’s where Carlisle United come in.
The Cumbrians, who play in League Two, faced Forest Green Rovers at home last night, a match they lost 2-1 to the plant-based visitors. But win or lose, as tradition, Carlisle award their man of the match a takeaway curry from local restaurant, Viceroy.

The winner of the award after their defeat to Forest Green was Joe Riley, a full-back who came through the youth system at Manchester United.
As you can tell by his picture above, he is absolutely delighted to win the award, and is excited to either wolf it down or immediately chuck it into the bin and never look at it again.
This is a little novel, but we do like the idea. So, going forward we would like to see the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes being handed pork pies and cheesy chips for their performances, if only for more pictures like this.
