Well, the stats don’t exactly disagree with him.
Carlos Queiroz says his old club have been making costly mistakes since Sir Alex Ferguson left, and that both David Moyes and Louis van Gaal have been guilty of panic-buying.
The former Manchester United assistant manager says he has respect for Fergie’s two successors but that the pair of them have made the transition from the great Scot a hell of a lot bumpier by the way they have gone about their business.
Mostly in the fact that the club have spent £325m post-Alex and forsaken some of its old principles.
“I have great admiration and respect for Louis and David,” Queiroz is quoted in The Guardian. “They are great coaches that I admire, but I think they made some critical and crucial mistakes in the transition from Alex.
“It was always about creating players. Now it is the opposite. We see some of the best players going down and even some of the players that arrived in the team like Falcao and Di Maria were on the bench,” he said.
“I saw Di Maria and some games, he looked like he has never played football.
“There is panic buying. You have to prepare and then make the decisions together. You can still make wrong decisions, but we never made panic decisions when buying players.
“There was nothing wrong with building the future based on the principles that were already inside Manchester United created by Alex Ferguson, that was the right direction.”
But, still, the Portuguese man has heaped pressure on van Gaal, claiming he should be competing for the league this season.
“I hope and expect this season that Manchester United is able to not only compete to win, but to win in style because that is what Manchester United is about – winning with style and entertainment.”
