Diego Costa has looked a different player this season, and Chelsea may have lost patience with the Spain international.
Costa has scored just three goals in 17 appearances this campaign after netting four times in his first three games in 2014/15.
And now the Blues are thought to have inquired about Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain as a potential replacement.
The Daily Mirror report that an approach could be made for the Napoli man in the summer if Costa does not turn his form around before then.
Higuain, who played under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, would not come cheap.
But he has been a consistent goalscorer at home and abroad, scoring 39 times for Napoli since the start of last season and finding the net twice in Argentina’s run to the Copa America final.
