Chelsea v Arsenal – Player Ratings

Tom Victor

Chelsea

Begovic – 6

A quiet afternoon for the goalkeeper

Ivanovic – 6

Didn’t worry his team-mates as he has done on other occasions

Zouma – 9

A performance reminiscent of a younger John Terry – took his goal well, while a first-half recovery tackle on Theo Walcott was one of the game’s highlights

zouma

Cahill – 7

Calmer than he has been in recent weeks, looking a little more settled

Azpilicueta – 6

Not his best game for Chelsea but perfectly solid

Matic – 6

Comfortable without Mikel alongside him, but not clear how much of this was down to Arsenal’s midfield being so ineffective

Fabregas – 7

One of his better games this season, looked more composed and a lot more involved than he has done

Pedro – 7

Worried the Arsenal defenders throughout, and could have found his name on the scoresheet with a bit more composure at key points

Oscar – 6

A solid display on his first start of the season, but still a little rusty at times

Hazard – 6

Not as impactful as he might have been against a stretched defence, but the late goal can help kick-start his season

haz

Diego Costa – 6

Surprisingly unthreatening in front of goal, but his mind games made enough of an impact

Substitutes

Ramires – 6

Solid display in a stretched game

Remy and Mikel – N/A

Will have been happy to get some Premier League minutes

Arsenal

Cech – 6

Had no chance with either goal – just the one shaky moment with an early corner

Bellerin – 7

Probably Arsenal’s stand-out performer, keeping close tabs on Chelsea’s forwards. His standing as the first-choice right-back seems justified

Gabriel – 5

One of Arsenal’s best players until his red card, but the sending-off was utterly avoidable and changed the game

Koscielny – 6

Dealt well with Costa by and large but could be blamed for the opener

Monreal – 6

Impressive going forward early on but was pushed back once Pedro got into his groove

monreal

Coquelin – 6

Played an important role but looked to be struggling with injury before half-time withdrawal

Cazorla – 6

A decent performance in a deeper role, especially after Coquelin’s withdrawal, but second booking was deserved

Ramsey – 5

Looked out of sorts before being dropped back into a deeper role, but picked up a little in the second half

Özil – 4

Entirely anonymous

oz

Sanchez – 5

Looked as though he needed a rest – some tired play, and blunted after Arsenal went down to 10 men

Walcott – 6

Worked hard to make something happen but lacked the support

Substitutes

Chambers – 5

Struggled after being thrown in against the attackers who tormented him last season, but had a thankless task

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Giroud – N/A

Saw Arsenal go down to 9 men shortly after coming on, so couldn’t really do much
