It’s a return to a classic design.
Images of Chelsea’s away kit for the upcoming 2018/19 season have been leaked by the great people at footyheadlines.com, and as you might have guessed, it’s yellow.
Chelsea away kits seem to always been white, black, or yellow, and this time Nike are bringing the vibrancy of yellow back after two years of rather mundane away shirts.
The last time Chelsea had a yellow away kit was in 2014/15, when they won the league under José Mourinho, with Diego Costa leading the line.
Next season’s kit, made by Nike, does not feature the stripes or the collar of the 2014/15 edition, but its simplicity is pleasing on the eye.
Blue and yellow is a winning combination. Possibly the best example of this colour scheme working was Arsenal’s away shirt in 2003/04, or any Brazil shirt down the years.
All Nike kits from the past two seasons have followed the same, simplistic template, which some may label boring. But you could argue that it combines the modern and the old very well. There’s no need to add features for the sake of it when the colour is the more important thing.
It has been tweaked once again for the upcoming World Cup and 18/19 season. This new Chelsea shirt will feature subtle zig-zag pattern appearing on the sleeves in ‘ice yellow’.
‘Blue is the Colour’ being printed on the inside of the back adds a nice touch, too.
The new Nike Chelsea 18-19 away kit is set for a release in July 2018, shortly after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
