Christian Eriksen: Ask Conte why I’m not playing

Christian Eriksen has only started three games for Inter Milan this season and has been taken off in all of them - and he's not too happy

Christian Eriksen says any questions about his lack of game time for Inter this season must be put to the manager, Antonio Conte, because he cannot explain the situation.

The former Tottenham star was taking part in a Q&A organised by the Danish FA when a fan asked him why he had not been starting many games for Inter.

“This must be asked to the coach,” Eriksen responded.

“Call him and talk to him, because he is the one who makes decisions. Ups and downs are always there in football, there are only a few ones out there who have always highs.”

Eriksen has made six appearances for Inter this season, starting three of those games, all of which saw him taken off before full time.

His pereipheral role in the Inter squad will come as a surprise to many after his January move from Tottenham to Inter was seen as a huge coup for the Serie A side, who were pushing to dethrone Juventus at the time.

But since then, the 28 year old has drifted further from the starting XI, with new midfielders joining the club, including Arturo Vidal – a player Barcelona were desperate to get rid of but Conte is fond of after their successful years together at Juventus.

“I’ve become better at not thinking about [criticism], because everyone has an opinion,” Eriksen said.

“Especially now that I’ve moved to Italy, where everyone has an opinion. It’s about trusting those around you and not hearing the rest.”
