After seven years, he’s back
CM Punk returned to the wrestling world on Friday night after a seven year absence. After making his name in the WWE and becoming one of the most popular Superstars on their roster, he walked away from Vince McMahon’s empire after the 2014 Royal Rumble and has not been seen in the ring since.
But he’s back, having signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling, a relatively new competitor to WWE.
His return sent his hometown crowd into raptures, as they chanted his name before he emerged from backstage to Living Colour’s ‘Cult of Personality,’ the song he became synonymous with during his time in WWE.

He spoke to the crowd for almost 10 minutes. “I was never going to get healthy staying in the place that got me sick in the first place,” he explained.
“I feel you, Chicago, and I hear you, Chicago,” he told the crowd as the continued to chant his name.
This was the moment wrestling fans everywhere have been anticipating for the best part of a decade. Welcome back.
