Jose Pekerman’s side were welcomed back to their country by hordes of adoring fans
The Colombian national football team were given a heroes’ welcome upon their return to the country on Thursday, as thousands of supporters greeted them in the country’s capital city of Bogota.
Crowds gathered on the side of roads in the capital city as the team’s bus travelled to the El Campin Stadium for an official ceremony, where they were greeted by a full capacity stadium of proud fans.
Colombia reached the round of 16 of the World Cup in Russia where they were eliminated by England on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
They qualified top of a group containing Senegal, Japan and Poland, having lost their first match to Japan 2-1.
Despite their elimination, the reception they received was one of celebration as they were greeted by vuvuzelas, dancing and music.
