Conor McGregor has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to Khabib Nurmagomedov, whose retirement from UFC was confirmed this week by Dana White.
In his post that he shared to his 39.5 million followers, McGregor said: “Happy retirement kid, smell ya later. Never forget who came in the game and made ye. Straight from my big Irish balls.
“Remember folks, if you hate cutting weight so much, all you have to do is move up a division. God bless.”

The relationship between Khabib and Mcgregor has been one of real tension over the past few years, so it is no surprise to see a couple of sly digs in there from ‘Notorious’.
In 2018 McGregor was arrested and charged with three counts of assault after him and some of his team attacked a bus which Khabib was in.
Khabib then famously beat McGregor at UFC 229, in an event that was marred with controversy after the fight as the victor climbed out of the Octagon and confronted some of McGregor’s corner, whilst a scuffle broke out between his cousin and McGregor in the ring.
Nurmagomedov had announced his retirement last October after retaining his lightweight title at UFC 254. However there was always a possibility that he may return.
UFC president White though has now confirmed that Khabib has definitely retired, after the two met to discuss the fighter’s future.
