Cristiano Ronaldo’s rewards for helping Portugal win Euro 2016 are many and varied.
There’s the medal, of course, and the Bugatti Veyron he bought himself after Eder’s goal made the difference against France in the final.
You might have wondered how he’d be able to one-up that achievement. As it turns out, it’s by having an airport renamed in his honour.
Madeira Airport, located on the outskirts of Ronaldo’s hometown of Funchal, will soon bear the name of the Real Madrid forward.

According to AS, the decision to rename the airport was announced during the week by Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government of Madeira.
Ronaldo might have left the field after 25 minutes of the final, but he played a huge part in his country getting that far and is undoubtedly one of the most famous people (if not the most famous) ever born on the island.
He already has a museum on Madeira dedicated to his life and work, which opened in 2013, and the airport caps it off. Lionel Messi doesn’t even have as much as a runway in his name.
