It’s definitely not a fight confirmation but nobody has more pull in the UFC than Dana White
Dana White has given his blessing to the much talked about lightweight clash between former champion Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone.
After being challenged by ‘Cowboy’ on numerous occasions, McGregor seemingly accepted the fight via Twitter in response to Cerrone’s stunning knockout victory over Alex Hernandez two weeks ago.
For a fight like that Donald, I’ll fight you.
Congratulations.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) January 20, 2019
McGregor is free to return to action on April 6 after being handed a six-month suspension for his role in the UFC 229 melee but the organisation will likely hold ‘The Notorious’ back until one of their big pay-per-view events in the summer.
With both McGregor and Cerrone are interested in fighting one another, the UFC president has revealed that he won’t stand in the way of that fan-favourite bout.
“I like that fight,” White said of McGregor vs Cerrone. “They both have called each other out. First ‘Cowboy’, tell me the last boring fight that guy was in. The answer’s never. He just busted into the top 10, warrior, unbelievable fight he just had and Conor McGregor’s fought anybody we’ve ever asked him to.
“If these two want to fight, I’m in.”

McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy recently revealed that the Cerrone bout is the most likely right now, taking precedence over a rematch with Max Holloway despite the Hawaiian’s best efforts on social media.
“[Holloway is] putting the digs in. I saw the post of him the other day in the Jameson [Distillery]…but I don’t know. I think the Cerrone one…because [McGregor and Cerrone] both engaged directly…Conor said he’d do it and then Cerrone said he’d do it…I think that might be in the pipeline,” Roddy told Peter Carroll on Eurobash.
“I can’t confirm that 100 percent obviously, but I think the fans would love it. It’s a great fight that people want to see. They can see the two of them in there, standing up and having a bang.”
