Hometown boy Daniel Dubois faces toughest task yet in Nathan Gorman

“It’s up to me and my fists to make the judgement”

Daniel Dubois is a man on a mission. The 21-year-old heavyweight is 11-0 in his nascent professional boxing career and has won all bar one by knockout.

On 13 July, the man known as ‘Dynamite’ will face his toughest task yet since leaving the GB Elite program to go professional, as he faces Nathan Gorman at the o2 Arena.

Having won the vacant WBO Global heavyweight title on 27 April against Richard Lartey, Dubois can now add the British heavyweight title to his collection with a win against Gorman.

An imposing figure who speaks of his career with the calm confidence of a man who feels he is destined for the top, few would bet against him, but in Gorman he faces the toughest opponent of his career.

Trained by legendary boxer Ricky Hatton, Gorman is also undefeated with 11 knockouts in his 16 professional wins.

There was no small degree of surprise when the fight was announced, due to the fact that both are under promoter Frank Warren. Warren previously stated that he had wanted the two boxers to develop before facing each other down the line, but the decision to pit them against each other is an indication that he feels they are ready.

Both fighters have explosive power, incredible hand speed and go for the knockout whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Despite the tough task ahead of him, Dubois told JOE that he feels like it’s his turn to reach the top, regardless of who’s in front of him.

“There’s a lot of issues and questions that I would have had for myself that I don’t have anymore. I know it’s just me and the ring and it’s up to me and my firsts to make judgement,” he said.

“You have to look deep within yourself and find out about who you really are as a person and it breaks you down to who you really are and if you’ve got it in you and if you can fight.

“I always just try and be real about what I’m doing and never let anything faze me because this is what I do all the time, and I know I’ve got what it takes to hang with anyone.”
