David Beckham has described how he was left heart broken when one of his sons told him he didn’t want to pursue a career in football.
The former England captain didn’t make clear which of his sons it was, but stated that their reluctance was based on the pressures associated with following in their father’s footsteps.
Speaking to ABC News, Beckham described the conversation:
“One of my boys turned around to me the other day, he said, “Daddy, you know, I’m not sure I want to play football all the time.” It broke my heart a little bit. He said, “Every time that I step onto the field, I know people are saying, you know, ‘This is David Beckham’s son,’ and if I’m not as good as you, then it’s not good enough.”
Two of Beckham’s sons, Brooklyn and Romeo have represented Arsenal academy sides through the years.
