New York City picked up a much needed 3-1 victory over DC United on Thursday evening, with Andrea Pirlo heavily involved.
Pirlo’s loose ball gifted the visitors the opening goal at the Yankee Stadium, but he later atoned for his error.
Picking up a misplaced pass on the halfway line, the Italian nonchalantly supplied the perfect defence-splitting lob for David Villa to score.
It was his first assist in MLS for NYCFC, who were again without the injured Frank Lampard.
After the game, Pirlo was clearly relieved to have helped cancel out his earlier mistake. “I needed to get forgiven for the bad pass that led to the first goal in the first half,” he said through an interpreter.
