Surprise choice?
Diego Forlan has played alongside some world class players. The Uruguayan lined up alongside footballers such as Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy at Manchester United, as well as a young Cristiano Ronaldo.
At his next club, Villarreal, Forlan played with Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, and at Atletico Madrid he struck up a lethal partnership with Sergio Aguero.
While, at international level, Forlan played with Luis Suarez, so it’s safe to say the 36-year-old knows a world class player when he sees one.
When asked, during an interview with Fox Sports Radio, who was the best player he featured alongside, Forlan didn’t even have to think about his answer.
“Paul Scholes,” the striker said. Scholes and Forlan were teammates for two years, between 2002 and 2004, at Old Trafford, and Forlan seemed struck by how good the former United midfielder was.
“The ginger fella was 30 metres from goal, he grabbed [the ball] and hit it at goal like it was nothing, leaving everyone surprised.”
The highest praise possible from Forlan.
