“I would love to fight Tyson Fury”
Dillian Whyte has come out and said he would ‘love’ to fight Tyson Fury as talks of a bout between the Gypsy King and Anthony Joshua stall.
Whyte, aka the ‘Bodysnatcher’, is currently enjoying a break from boxing after his recent fight against Derek Chisora at the O2 last month, in which he knocked out his opponent.
But the 30-year-old is not hiding away from taking on the best in the game. On Friday morning he called out Anthony Joshua, he then admitted he would be keen to fight Wladimir Klitschko if he were to come out of retirement.
With his most recent comments, Whyte has fuelled the possibility of a world title fight against fellow Brit Tyson Fury. Speaking to talkSPORT, Whyte said: “I’ve been trying to fight Tyson Fury for ages, I would love to fight Tyson Fury.”
“It’s a big fight – he’s one of the best fighters in the world. He brings certain challenges to the fight game that no other fighter brings; his height, his awkwardness and his boxing ability.
Fury returned after almost three years outside the boxing game to fight the American Deontay Wilder at the start of December, sharing the spoils after recovering from being knocked down twice during the fight.
A rematch between Fury and Wilder is potentially on the cards, but Whyte has a game plan should he come up against the Gypsy King.
“I would beat him of course,” he said. “I wouldn’t try to outbox Tyson Fury; I would try and knock him out.
“I wouldn’t try and outbox him because he is long and awkward and that is his game.”
As Fury demonstrated in the Wilder fight, not only is he a tremendously skilled boxer, he can take a hit and get back up. Whyte might be overestimating his ability to knock him out. Still, can’t fault his confidence.
