Few of us expected The Dutch football team’s fall from grace to be so dramatic.
Less than 18 months after beating Brazil in the World Cup third-place play-off, Danny Blind’s side need a minor miracle to even qualify for the 24-team European Championships.
Not only do they need to win against the Czech Republic in their final group game, but they need third-placed Turkey to lose at home to Iceland.
Even that would only guarantee the Dutch a place in the play-offs, but they’re clearly fully behind their potential Nordic saviours.
Alfred Finnbogason, the Icelandic striker who spent part of his career in the Netherlands with Heerenveen, spotted this message of support on the street in his homeland.
Who would have thought it would come to this?
Nice to see the Dutch are supporting us! No worries my Dutch friends! pic.twitter.com/GBJ0RS8DuU
