Emre Can’s worldie inevitably leads to *even more* Paul Pogba talk

Forget just admiring how brilliant the goal was...

It cost Manchester United a lot of money to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford last summer.

You might have heard.

Nearly a full season in to his second chapter at United, it’s fair to say that Pogba hasn’t convinced the internet’s many, many football experts that he’s worth anything like the world-record £89m fee Juventus received for him.

Clearly, things could’ve been better for the French international, although the wastefulness of his teammates and his uncanny knack of hitting the woodwork at least seven times a match haven’t helped his goal scoring and assisting statistics all that much.

Having failed to singlehandedly transform United into Premier League champions in his first season back at the club, Pogba – largely because of how much money was forked out for him – has become a target for football fans that are itching to highlight what a waste of money he’s been.

Even in the immediate aftermath of one the season’s finest goals, on a night Pogba wasn’t even playing, the 24-year-old couldn’t escape being the butt of the jokes. The goal in question was, of course, Emre Can’s acrobatic winner for Liverpool at Watford.

Instead of admiring the brilliance of the goal, plenty of Liverpool fans instead chose to use it as an example of how ‘overrated’ Pogba is, highlighting the difference in cost, age and media coverage received by the two players.

Something tells us this won’t be the final time Pogba’s pricetag is brought up by supporters of rival clubs…
