England fans aren’t happy as their route to the final becomes clearer

Wrong half

Simon Lloyd

Considering it’s written in the stars that England will win their first major tournament since 1966 this summer, their supporters aren’t half downbeat.

24 hours on from hammering Slovakia 0-0, the picture of who they might face in the knock out stages is becoming a little clearer.

It’s unknown who they’ll face in the last 16 – that comes on Wednesday night – but it is now clear that England’s route to the final (a final which they definitely will reach) is going to be considerably harder than if they’d managed to beat Slovakia.

Why? Well, for a start, Croatia’s win over Spain means that Vincente Del Bosque’s men will be in the same side of the draw as England and will have to overcome a well-organised Italian side if they are to progress to the quarter finals. Added to that, there’s also World Champions Germany and much fancied hosts nations France to factor in, too.

Despite having the greatest international squad ever assembled and fate on their side, England fans were incredibly pessimistic about their chances, with many blaming Roy Hodgson for their inability to win their match in Saint Etienne on Monday.

Chin up fellas. Wait and see how things look in another 24 hours.
