Roy Hodgson had resigned from his post within an hour of full-time whistle, paving the way for Sam Allardyce to finally be given a crack at the national team job.
With the former Sunderland manager due to take his first press conference since it was confirmed that he would be taking charge of the England role, talk has turned to which players might make his first international squad.
Discussing the matter of Sky Sports News, Stuart Pearce offered a possible England XI for Big Sam’s first game in charge against Croatia in September.
It’s safe to say it raised a few eyebrows…

As of yet, Pearce hasn’t been contacted by Allardyce with a view to joining his coaching setup with the national team. Judging by this, that phonecall may never arrive.
