Eric Abidal is also set to be questioned by French police
The wife of former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal is reportedly being investigated as part of the ongoing case into the attack on Paris Saint-Germain women player Kheira Hamraoui.
Hamraoui was being driven home by her PSG teammate, Aminata Diallo, earlier this month when two masked men dragged the 31-year-old out of the car. She was repeatedly struck on the legs with iron bars before the two men fled the scene. Hamraoui was hospitalised by the attack and required stitches in her legs and hands.
Earlier this week, French outlet Le Monde reported that police were investigating alternative scenarios into the case of the attack, after Diallo, who was initially arrested, was released from police custody.
The report stated that Eric Abidal is set to be questioned by French police, after it emerged that the sim card on Hamraoui’s phone had been registered under his name.
Now, French newspaper L’Equipe – as cited by Marca – are reporting that Abidal’s wife, Hayet Abidal, is a suspect in the case.
According to Le Monde, it appears that Hayet’s involvement in the incident could have been personal revenge for a reported affair between Eric Abidal and Hamraoui.
Le Monde also confirmed that, during the attack, one of the hooded men shouted ‘you like to sleep with married men’.
The 42-year-old Abidal has been married to his wife, Hayet, since 2003 and they have five children together.
