Basically, don’t wind the guy up
For a match that was largely overshadowed by the events that were occurring between Juventus and Porto in Turin, Dortmund vs Sevilla still had more than enough drama for it to grab headlines.
The main one being that Erling Braut Haaland continues to be a goal machine, becoming the quickest player in history to reach 20 Champions League goals. His goal from the spot last night was his 20th goal in just 14 appearances in the competition, which broke Harry Kane’s previous record of 24 games.
His second goal last night though came at the end of a crazy seven-minute spell. After Haaland had a goal disallowed, VAR then awarded a penalty from the previous phase of play, which was saved by Yassine Bounou (affectionately known as ‘Bono’).
However the penalty was ordered to be retaken as the Sevilla keeper had come off his line.
Of course Haaland bagged the second attempt. And the Norwegian striker had not taken kindly to Bono’s celebrations after the previous penalty save. In his joy he ran right up to the Moroccan keeper and screamed in his face before wheeling away in celebration. Sevilla players ran after him to give him a piece of their mind, and Haaland was duly booked for unsportsmanlike conduct. And his explanation?
“I missed and then he cheated. Then I took it again and scored when he didn’t cheat. When he was screaming in my face after the first one, I was thinking ‘it will be even better to score another goal’ – and that’s what happened, so it was nice,” he said.
When asked what it was that he said to Bono, the 20 year-old was tight-lipped: “I don’t want to say. I don’t know what it means but I said what he said after I missed the first one. Maybe it’s karma in this world.”
The guy takes absolutely no prisoners. Whoever Dortmund draw in the quarter finals should be very wary indeed.
