Euro 2020 matches taking place at Wembley are likely to welcome a full crowd 0f 90,000 people, according to a report in the Evening Standard.
This optimistic news comes from the findings of a report into events with big crowds as the UK prepares to lose all Covid restrictions on June 21.
Culture secretary Oliver Dowden was enthused by the results of several test events, telling the Standard that only 15 cases of Covid-19 emerged among 58,000 people who took part in events ranging from the Brit Awards to the FA Cup final.
There have been no cases emerge from the reduced capacity football at Wembley Stadium, including Leicester’s FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.
This means it is increasingly likely that in the latter stages of Euro 2020, matches played at Wembley – which include both semi-finals and the final – could host a full capacity crowd.
“Overall it has been a real success,” Dowden said.
“I hope by June 21 we will be lighting up the West End again, having full stadiums and bringing light and Technicolor back into our national life again,” the Cabinet minister added.
