Manchester United were on the wrong side of the result on Tuesday evening, with Real Madrid claiming their second European Super Cup on the spin with a 2-1 victory in Skopje.
By now, you’re probably well aware of how the game went, so let’s just ignore all that and get stuck into its major talking point: Marouane Fellaini’s gurning face becoming a meme…
The Belgian entered the game as a second half substitute and, as much as some United fans won’t like to admit it, appeared to improve them.
At full-time, the picture below – which is believed to have been taken a fraction of a second after the former Everton player had attempted to bring the ball down on his chest – was sweeping across social media.
The best part about this picture is that #Fellaini had just chested the ball#MUFC 🆗 pic.twitter.com/2AZFGNlDO6

The image was so widely-shared, it even prompted a response from Fellaini himself. Within hours of the game’s final-whistle, he tweeted his thanks to those that had sent him the picture. Signing off with six laughing face emoji, it’s clear he could also see the funny side.
Thank you to everyone who posted & sent me this 😂😂😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/O7tmOSYR38
