Everton wear blue
Blue is the colour of Everton’s home jersey. So when they play at home they wear blue. Sometimes, when playing away to a side which also wears blue, the Toffees will wear their away kit.
The above paragraph used to be true. But the advent of modern football and all the trimmings that go along with it dictates that money, particularly external money, has a major say in things that had previously just been down to common sense.
One of those things is the choice of kits, and what kits sides wear for a given game. Everton’s match away to Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday was one of those games, and the home team unsurprisingly took to the field wearing their customary red and white home kit.
Logic would dictate that Everton would wear their home kit too, perhaps with blue shorts, so as to not clash with Arsenal.
However, Everton instead took to the pitch wearing their away kit, which is a black and neon pink number manufactured by Umbro.
The club’s decision to wear this jersey would appear to be linked with both Umbro and Everton’s desire to sell as many units of the away kit as possible, rather than any morbid desire to infuriate all the traditionalists of the football world.
Nonetheless, infuriate all the traditionalists it has, and they have been extremely quick to let the world know their ire.
Glad Everton have a changed strip. It's difficult to tell the sides apart when one is in red and the other in blue. #ARSEVE

Everton choosing not to wear blue against Arsenal shows scant regard for their identity and history.
It also makes a mockery of them actually having blue change shorts/socks – which they sell online. #ARSEVE pic.twitter.com/KFMvoTBd0R

Dear @Everton, what’s with that abomination of a kit today? What’s wrong with traditional royal blue? Arsenal wear red! Presumably we’ll now go to Anfield and Old Trafford and not wear royal blue? #NewKitToFlog #UTT

Thank goodness Everton are playing in black. I would never have been able to distinguish their usual blue kit against the home red of Arsenal #ARSEVE

@KitCrimes surely Everton would wear blue against Arsenal???? 👀 pic.twitter.com/yriPYdtC08

Not a fan of this trend. Everton should wear blue and Liverpool red whenever possible. We all know they have away and third kits to sell but that's the second away game in succession they've changed when there's been no kit clash (white shirts at Bournemouth)

Without having a go at my mighty club .. it's a Prem Lge thing .. why aren't Everton playing in blue and white?.. We've won FA Cups and titles in our traditional colours. We're playing against a team in red and white. I think the black strip is horrible and very un-Evertonian.
