England signed off from their penultimate international break of 2017 with another enthralling 1-0 victory.
Having booked their spot at next summer’s World Cup in Russia with a win by the same scoreline against Slovenia last week, another Harry Kane goal – this time from the penalty spot – was enough to see Gareth Southgate’s men record a victory over Lithuania in Vilnius.
The game was a dead rubber and an opportunity for Southgate to give debuts to some of the players in his squad.
One of those was Tottenham midfielder, Harry Winks, who had originally been called up to the under-21 squad until injuries to Phil Jones and Fabien Delph saw him promoted to the seniors.
The 21-year-old was handed the number seven shirt for the match, much to the disappointment of many of those watching who all made similar quips about how he should’ve been given the number 40 shirt…
England have missed a trick not giving Harry Winks the number 40 shirt. #LITENG #England

Only complaint I have about Harry winks playing is he hasn’t got number 40 on his back.

Seems plain rude Winks didn't go for the number 40 shirt…

Winks should be number 40.

#England Southgate should have given Winks the number 40 shirt

40 Winks… Geddit?
Thankfully, the kind of football England have served up during their recent performances has been more than enough for those watching to get plenty of shut-eye.
England’s final international break of the year sees them take on Germany and Brazil at Wembley next month.
