Anfang has been banned from coaching for one year
Former Werder Bremen manager Markus Anfang has been banned from coaching for one year for using a falsified vaccination certificate.
The 47-year-old German resigned from his position in November amid an investigation by German authorities into his alleged use of a forged covid vaccination document.
Bremen initially stated that Anfang had denied using a fake vaccination certificate, however, he and then assistant coach Florian Junge both left their roles just one day later.
The Sports Court of the German Football Federation (DFB) have now banned Anfang for a year – starting from November 20. As reported by Sport Buzzer, the penalty has been set from June 10 for probation. It adds that, while assistant coach Junge has been banned for 10 months, and is required to pay a fine of 3,000 euros, Anfang must pay fine of 20,000 euros.

“Markus Anfang and Florian Junge have significantly violated the role model function as trainers through their actions,” said Hans E. Lorenz, the chairman of the DFB Sports Court.
“However, with regard to their confessions made, it is justified to suspend part of the ban on probation in order to give them the opportunity to make a new commitment for the 2022/2023 season.”
Anfang only took charge of the German second division side in June and guided the team to eighth in the table after 13 games.
Following the 47-year-old’s resignation, Bremen swiftly appointed Ole Werner as their new manager, with the German enjoying a successful time in charge so far with ‘Die Werderaner’ currently sitting third in 2. Bundesliga.
