Both teams have received equal pay since the start of the year
Both the men’s and women’s England teams have been receiving equal pay since January this year, the FA have confirmed.
The announcement comes after the Brazilian football association announced they would be making the change to pay their women’s team the same as the men’s.
A statement read: “The FA pays its women’s players exactly the same as their male counterparts for representing England, both in terms of match fees and match bonuses.
“This parity has been in place since January 2020.”
What should be standard is sadly scarce in the world of football but there are other nations who do the same, including Australia, Norway and New Zealand.
The most high profile example of not adhering to equal pay demands is of course in the United States, there the women’s team sued their federation, alleging discrimination over pay and conditions. Their case was dismissed but an appeal was submitted, with the players seeking $66 million in damages under the Equal Pay Act.
