A crucial moment
Since his injury at the weekend, much has been made of who will fill in for Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s defence.
On Wednesday, as Jurgen Klopp’s side opened their Champions League campaign against Ajax in Amsterdam, Fabinho dropped back from his usual berth in midfield to help cover the Dutchman.
And the Brazilian was responsible for preserving Liverpool’s slender lead as the game approached half-time.
A ball lofted over the top to Dusan Tadic saw the former Southampton man lift the ball over Adrian in the Liverpool goal. Just as it seemed the Dutch club had drawn level, the Brazilian was able to hook the ball away with an overhead clearance.

The clearance capped an impressive showing for the Brazilian, who helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet for the night.
