You know who wasn’t surprised that Philippe Coutinho played a blinder against Manchester United? Simon Mignolet.
The diminutive midfielder scored the pivotal goal during Liverpool’s Europa League win at Old Trafford with a sensational solo effort just before half-time.
Coutinho’s goal away from home essentially ended the tie as a contest and booked the Reds’ place into the quarter-finals, sailing through 3-1 on aggregate.
Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet told the Liverpool Echo that Coutinho’s moment of magic came as no surprise to him as he’s seen the Brazilian do it time and time again… in training.
“I’ve seen it back and it was a very special goal. He got past the defender and the finish from that angle was just incredible. Philippe made it look so easy.”
“I wasn’t surprised because I see him do that every day in training. He scores goals like that past me. I know what he’s capable of.”
Unsurprisingly, football fans were quick to hone in on the fact that Mignolet admitted Coutinho scores wondergoals on him in training on a daily basis. Here’s all the best reaction to Mignolet’s unintentionally funny praise.
