Some ‘fans’ were making the same appalling jokes after Ched Evans scored on his Chesterfield debut

He bagged a free kick...

Ched Evans made a goalscoring return to his football league career for Chesterfield.

The 27-year-old, who who had his conviction for the rape of a 19-year-old girl quashed, hit the net in his league debut against Oxford United after four years away from professional football.

The Welsh striker, who served half of a five year jail term before his conviction was overturned after an appeal, was taken on by the Spireites on a £2000-a-week deal and scored two goals in pre-season.

But former Sheffield United player Evans, who has continually denied rape in the case which is set for a retrial in October, kept his goalscoring form going into the new season with a 76th minute equaliser in the 1-1 draw away at Oxford.

When he signed for the League One side he  was “privileged to be resuming my career at Chesterfield and I hope to make a valuable contribution both on and off the pitch for the football club, the fans and the community.”

After hitting the net on his return to football though, some fans it seems just want to make a series of extremely distasteful jokes.

But joking about rape is truly deplorable.
