He could be heading on loan to Southampton or Newcastle.
In his last few Premier League seasons, Fernando Torres became a bit of a punchline. Despite making a blistering start to his Liverpool career, following his big money movie to Chelsea in 2011, he managed to only score 20 goals in 110 games for the West London club.
Last year he returned to Atletico Madrid, where he began his career. But now, with 18 months left on his contract, and having only started two games this season, The Mirror is reporting that he is looking for a loan move back to England.
The 33 year-old’s representatives have reportedly made both Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez and Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino aware that he is interested in returning to the Premier League – and hoping that one of them will make an apporach for him. Benitez was of course Torres’ boss when he was at Anfield.
The striker also plans to retire when his contract expires, and wants to spend his last season at Atletico. But he also wants to play as many games as he can this year, and is looking for a loan move to make that happen.
