This a touching gesture by both clubs
Fiorentina and Cagliari have both retired the number 13 jersey worn by Davide Astori, the Italian defender who passed away on Sunday. Astori was just 31 and was Fiorentina captain.
Before joining the Florence team in 2016, he had played for Cagliari for eight years, after coming through the youth system at AC Milan.
The clubs announced the decision with tweets on Tuesday morning, which read:
“To honour his memory and make the memory of Davide Astori indelible, Cagliari Calcio and Fiorentina have decided to jointly withdraw the shirt with the number 13.”
