It’s derby weekend
This coming weekend of Premier League fixtures should be the first in a while when the ‘Super Sunday’ title is actually justified. Tottenham play Arsenal in the first north London derby of the season, Ranieri returns to Stamford Bridge with struggling Fulham, and Liverpool play Everton after a frustrating defeat in the Champions League against PSG. It should be lots of fun, with lots of Fantasy Premier League points to be had. Here’s some tips on how to get as many points as possible.
1. Harry Kane – Tottenham, £12.3m
Harry Kane loves a north London derby. Absolutely loves them. Ever since Arsenal let him go at the age of nine, he’s been on a personal mission to prove them wrong, and it’s safe to say he’s doing a pretty good job – he has scored seven goals in seven Premier League games against the Gunners. Unai Emery’s team have improved this season but Kane is in a rich vein of form and will almost certainly score against the Gunners, who still look shaky at the back. He’s not cheap, but he’s a low-risk investment.
2. Salomón Rondón – Newcastle, £5.6m
Newcastle United are on a run of three consecutive wins. That upturn in form just so happened to coincide with Rondón’s return from injury, though it is not exactly coincidence. The Venezuelan forward has given the Magpies more of a focal point up front, allowing the team to move further up the field on the rare occasion that they get hold of the ball. He may only have two Premier League goals this season, but his nine shots inside the penalty box over gameweeks 11-13 rank joint-second overall. He has the added bonus of only being selected by 1.3% of managers, too.
3. Patrick van Aanholt – Crystal Palace, £5.4m
Palace are a strange side. Their left-back is more of an attacking threat than either ‘winger’ on the pitch, as both of their natural wingers play up front in a bizarre Simeone-esque 4-4-2. Van Aanholt loves to charge forward and does occasionally pop up with the occasional goal or assist. Palace have to start scoring eventually, and they won’t get a better chance than against Burnley, who have not looked themselves this season. The Dutch Roberto Carlos only costs a reasonable £5.4m and has racked up an impressive 47 points this season.
4. Leroy Sané – Manchester City, £9.3m
Hardly a hidden gem, but last season’s Young Player of the Season is a must have – now more than ever. With Benjamin Mendy unfit, and Fabian Delph therefore taking his place at left-back, Sané is all but guaranteed to start every league game on the left wing. Pep Guardiola relies on either Mendy or Delph to stretch the pitch on that side, and City always try to get the ball to the byline for a cut-back followed by a tap-in. The German currently has 69 points under his belt, 19 of which he amassed against West Ham last weekend.
5. Moussa Sissoko – Tottenham, £4.9m
Sissoko is one of the most bi-polar players on the planet. He’s either unplayable, with his powerful runs through midfield, or so useless that his contributions are to the detriment of the team. Right now, he is the former. Mauricio Pochettino has found the perfect role for his unique skillset – on the right of a midfield three, which has truly got the best form out of his ‘transition king’. His burst through Inter’s midfield led to Tottenham’s winning goal on Wednesday night, and the Frenchman will be hoping to repeat these heroics against Arsenal.
