It’s Christmas party season

As Christmas party season sweeps the nation, mulled wine is chugged, carols are sung, and merriness is spread, it is easy to accidentally neglect your fantasy team. Don’t do that. Your FPL team needs constant care, attention, and nurturing, just like that plant gathering dust in your hallway. Water it, you savage. And look after your FPL team.

Here are five tips for Gameweek 17.

1. Lucas Moura – Tottenham Hotspur, £7.0m

Tottenham secured their place in the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League on Tuesday night thanks to a Lucas Moura equaliser. The Brazilian was introduced from the bench and did exactly what he was brought in to do. He has started Spurs’ last two Premier League games and is likely to start against Burnley at home, a game in which Spurs should have some joy.

2. Raheem Sterling – Manchester City, £11.6m

Sterling has dominated the headlines this week for raising the important issue of dog whistle racism in the media, reminding us of his incredible mental resilience in the face of vitriol. Despite the abuse he faces every week, he has managed to maintain an incredibly high standard on the pitch. With 106 points, it’s no surprise that he costs a whopping £11.6m, but he has shown that he is worth the high fee, scoring eight goals in the league this season – joint top with Sergio Agüero.

3. Alex Pritchard – Huddersfield Town, £4.8m

He’s not exactly set the league alight this season, but Pritchard could make the difference for Huddersfield this weekend when they welcome Newcastle to the John Smith’s Stadium. The ex-Spurs man has only been selected by 0.1% of managers, making his inclusion a great opportunity to rack up some points that your competitors won’t get.

4. James Maddison – Leicester City, £6.8m

Leicester travel to Selhurst Park this weekend to play a Crystal Palace side who will be without their star player Wilfried Zaha. If that’s not a reason to get Leicester’s play-maker in your team, I don’t know what is. He has scored more FPL points than any of his teammates this season, and will almost certainly smash a free-kick top bins against Wayne Hennessey, who has a knack of conceding world class goals.

5. Sead KolaÅ¡inac – Arsenal, £5m

KolaÅ¡inac has started Arsenal’s last three Premier League games, winning two and drawing the other against Manchester United. His powerful runs from left wing-back make him a threat going forward, and against Southampton, he should cause Cedric Soares some problems. Saints are still adjusting to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s high energy system, a stark contrast to Mark Hughes’ seemingly absent philosophy, and Arsenal will be looking to capitalise on this at St Mary’s.
