The Premier League is back
Last weekend was not the most thrilling in terms of footballing action. Unless your team made it through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup of course, which I’m pleased to announce mine did. So, I thoroughly enjoyed last weekend’s football but I fully understand that watching Crystal Palace cruise to a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers is not everyone’s cup of tea.
This weekend sees the return of the Premier League, and that means there are a tonne of Fantasy Premier League points to win. Here are our five tips for Gameweek 27.
1. Lukasz Fabianski – West Ham, £4.7m
If you had to guess which three players had amassed the most points for West Ham this season, you’d probably guess Felipe Anderson (correct), Marko Arnautović (also correct) and someone like Declan Rice (incorrect). While Anderson has earned the most points with 122, and Arnautović is in third with 79, it’s their goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski who sits second with 101. He’s been a revelation at West Ham, a far cry from the ‘keeper we saw at Arsenal, and will almost certainly keep another clean sheet against Fulham at the weekend.
2. Ricardo Pereira – Leicester, £5.3m
A defender with license to bomb forward, Ricardo Pereira has just reached the 100 point mark – that is a higher points tally than Kyle Walker and Cesar Azpilicueta, widely regarded as the best right-backs in the league. Leicester come up against Crystal Palace this weekend and Wilfried Zaha – for all his attacking qualities – will leave space down Palace’s left for Pereira to attack.
3. Ryan Fraser – Bournemouth, £6.1m
If you haven’t had Fraser in your team all season, quite frankly, what on earth are you doing? The diminutive winger has 121 points to his name this season, more than any other Bournemouth player. His pace will be vital in this weekend’s match against Wolves, whose star right-back Matt Doherty is a doubt.
4. Marcus Rashford – Manchester United, £7.8m
Rashford is enjoying a hot run of form at the moment, after being moved into a central role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management. Coming up against Liverpool on Sunday, the 21-year-old will be desperate to repeat last season’s feat of scoring a brace against United’s biggest rivals. He’s also United’s second highest point scorer behind Paul Pogba and costs just £8.8m.
5. Andy Robertson – Liverpool, £6.8m
37.7% of FPL managers have Robertson in their side, but that’s because it would be stupid not to include such a player. He has amassed more points this season than Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Virgil Van Dijk and he only costs £6.8m. Liverpool players also carry the added bonus of not blanking in gameweeks 31 and 33 having been knocked out of the FA Cup and the fixture schedule means they come up against clubs who’ve also been knocked out in those gameweeks. Basically, get as many Liverpool players in as possible.
