Oh, you again
International breaks are getting better, aren’t they? Qualifiers are still a formality but they’re a lot more enjoyable to watch since Gareth Southgate detoxified the England camp and made them whole again. North of the border, meanwhile, Scotland fans own’t have enjoyed the break so much, losing to Kazakhstan and beating San Marino by just two goals.
But now, as always, the hustle and bustle of the Premier League is back, and that means we must all make adjustments to our Fantasy Premier League teams.
Here are five players to include this weekend.
1. Raheem Sterling – Manchester City, £11.6m
Our hero. Our mate. Raheem the dream smashed in his first England hat-trick against the Czech Republic a week ago and is in with a shout of winning PFA Player of the Season. On top of the obvious obstacles Sterling has overcome off the pitch, he is also in the form of his life on it, and if you don’t have him in your team, I don’t know what you’re doing. He’s the second highest point scorer in FPL for a reason. Manchester City are also playing Fulham this weekend, who have conceded 70 goals this season.
It’s also a double gameweek, and City’s second game is against Cardiff. You do the math(s).
2. João Moutinho – Wolves, £5.3m
Despite being the most decorated player in the Wolves squad, Moutinho is something of an unsung hero in this team. His tireless work in midfield and ability to recycle possession as well as play defence splitting passes has made him arguably signing of the season. He has earned 98 points and costs just £5.3m. That’s value.
3. Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez – West Ham, £6.1m
The ‘little’ pea continues to defy the odds by scoring important goals despite having no discernible skill other than being in the right place at the right time. It’s likely that he’ll end up nodding in a scrappy goal from a corner, as West Ham welcome Everton – who cannot defend set pieces to save their life – to the London Stadium.
4. Ben Chilwell – Leicester City, £5.0m
The England international has come on leaps and bounds this season, nailing down a starting spot for both club and country. He is also Leicester’s fifth highest point scorer in FPL, with 88. At just £5m, that’s a good return for a defender.
5. Heung-min Son – Tottenham Hotspur, £8.6m
Spurs come up against Liverpool this weekend. The last three meetings between these sides have provided at least three goals, and I don’t see this one being any different. While Harry Kane is Spurs’ biggest goal threat, you might be better served selecting Son, given his substantially cheaper price – he costs £3.9m less than Kane, but has just 17 fewer points to his name.
