It had been 38 years since their previous continental victory
On Saturday night, Brazilian giants Flamengo ended their near four-decade Copa Libertadores drought with an unlikely victory against Argentine behemoths and holders River Plate.
Marcelo Gallardo’s side looked set to retain the trophy, as they entered the last minute of the game with a one-goal lead. That was until Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa AKA Gabigol decided enough was enough.
The on-loan Inter striker scored two goals in two minutes to seal the win and send the crowd in Lima’s Estadio Monumental “U” into raptures. More than 10,000km away, in London, fans of the club were themselves going wild.
We travelled to Vauxhall in London to watch the match with Flamengo supporters, and witnessed their reaction to one of the craziest endings to a final that you’re ever likely to see.
"We are waiting for you, Liverpool."
