Floyd Mayweather has apologised for slur directed at Conor McGregor

He admitted he crossed the line

It was wise of Floyd Mayweather to decide against apologising ‘to absolutely nobody’ in this instance.

The promotional tour for Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather was absolutely ridiculous when you think about it. If you book two athletes to do back-to-back-to-back-to-back semi-improvisational roasting sessions in packed stadiums that are broadcast to millions of people, you can’t expect them to behave like perfect gentlemen.

Mental and physical fatigue clearly set in after the spectacular Toronto presser which meant the tour sort of ran out of steam well in advance of the grand finale in London.

It was in the English capital where Mayweather dropped one of the most controversial insults of the tour towards his adversary.

“Yeah, we’re going to talk about this pussy. You punk, you faggot, you ho.”

While Mayweather did not receive anywhere near the same backlash for his homophobic slur as McGregor was slapped with for telling ‘Money’ to ‘dance for me boy’ or for the ‘dancing monkeys’ in Rocky III comment, he did receive some criticism.

Mayweather felt obliged to apologise for the remark in a recent ESPN interview he did with Stephen A. Smith.

“I spoke on disrespect. Like I said before, it’s certain boundaries we just don’t cross. It’s OK if he wants to say certain things. Even in the press tour when I said something, I didn’t want to be negative towards lesbians or gays when I said something to him. So, I apologise.”

We wonder how many more apologies we’ll hear from these two warriors before fight night.
