The vast majority of those inside Anfield respected the moment’s silence
A moment’s silence to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II was respected by the majority of those in attendance at Anfield for Liverpool’s Champions League game with Ajax on Tuesday.
After some Liverpool supporters booed the national anthem before the FA Cup final earlier this year, there had been talk leading into the game that fans may not respect the minute’s silence.
While most of the 53,000-strong crowd in attendance did remain silence, there were some isolated boos to begin with – referenced in BT Sport’s commentary of the game.
Several cries of ‘Liverpool’ can be heard in footage filmed inside the stadium which has since been shared on social media. Other Liverpool supporters can be heard attempting to hush those responsible, before the referee’s whistle brings to an end the moment’s silence.

Elsewhere, Rangers are preparing to play the national anthem at Ibrox on Wednesday ahead of their re-arranged Champions League game against Napoli.
According to The Daily Mail, The Scottish Premiership side, along with Manchester City and Chelsea, had requests to play the anthem rejected by UEFA, with European football’s governing body preferring to maintain a subdued atmosphere ahead of kick-off.
Despite this, The Daily Record reports that Rangers will allow the Ibrox crowd to sing the anthem as a mark of respect to the Queen and her son, King Charles III.
