Ramsdale has silenced many critics since his move to the Emirates Stadium
Aaron Ramsdale has revealed that he turned the notifications off on his phone in order to block out the backlash surrounding his move to Arsenal.
Ramsdale left Sheffield United to join the Gunners for a fee of £24 million in the summer, with many questioning the decision to sign the goalkeeper given that he had been relegated in consecutive seasons with Bournemouth and the Blades.
But since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as the number one keeper – keeping six clean sheets in the process.
His form at club level has also seen him earn his first international cap, as he featured in the record win against San Marino in the final of England’s World Cup qualifiers.
And the former Sheffield United shot-stopper has said that he wasn’t bothered about other people’s opinions of him and turned his social media notifications off in order to concentrate on playing for his new club.
“I saw the backlash,” he told the Times.
“That’s when I made the decision to turn comments off, notifications off for people I don’t follow on Instagram and Twitter.
“People can tag me but I won’t see it, so it won’t come up on my feed… when people were saying I was getting a lot of stick and abuse, I said, ‘Am I?’
“I didn’t really know and I didn’t really care because, yes, I’ve been relegated twice but the way I looked at it was two years of completely different experiences to other people at 23.
“It’s me and ten other people on the pitch.”
Ramsdale will look to keep his good form up again tonight (Monday 6 December) when he and his Arsenal teammates travel to Merseyside to face Everton at Goodison Park.
