Ajax net two stunners to shock Bernabeu in Champions League clash

Marc Mayo

Dusan Tadic was pulling all the strings, including a disturbingly naughty trick for the second

Real Madrid came into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Ajax sitting pretty on a 2-1 aggregate lead, however barely a quarter of the game had gone before the underdogs turned it around.

In fact, the Bernabeu was left ruing a huge chance barely moments after kick-off as Raphael Varane hit the bar, and that miss was punished by Hakim Ziyech after only seven minutes. Dusan Tadic stole the bar and squared it for a comfortable finish from the Moroccan past Thibaut Courtois.

The tie was still in Madrid’s favour at that point, thanks to their two away goals in Amsterdam a fortnight ago, but that man Tadic popped up once more to breeze past the hosts and set up a second. The former Southampton outcast even dropped in a naughty little turn past Casemiro on the way to setting up David Neres, making the Brazilian look like Nigel Quashie.

With the assist, Tadic became the player involved in the most goals in the entire Champions League this season, netting five times for Ajax along with three assists. Answers on a postcard, Southampton fans.
