Thibaut Courtois was powerless to stop Lasse Schöne’s effort
Ajax pulled off a memorable 4-1 win away to Real Madrid on Tuesday night with Lasse Schöne hitting a scorching free-kick to seal his team’s passage to the quarter-finals.
Having already shocked the Bernabeu with two early goals before Dusan Tadic added a third on 62 minutes, there were minor doubts creeping in when Marco Asensio pulled a goal back for the hosts.
But nobody told Schöne about Real’s history of incredible European comebacks and the Dane stepped up to whip a fierce effort over Thibaut Courtois from a narrow angle.

The Bernabeu emptied almost immediately as the local fans were left to ponder the end of their Champions League winning streak, Zinedine Zidane having lifted the trophy in each of the last three seasons before his departure in the summer.
But the night was all about Ajax and Tadic in particular notched his sixth goal in this year’s competition, adding to his three assists to make the former Southampton man the player involved in more goals in the entire 2018/19 Champions League than anyone else.
The four-time winners hadn’t reached the quarter-finals since 2002 but are now the first entrants into this year’s last eight alongside Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate in their tie.
